CHAIR - JENNY SHORTEN
Jenny is serving her third and final year as Chair and fifth on the Executive overall. With her background as a LibDem campaigner in the UK for 35+ years before moving to France, she is looking forward to helping British citizens abroad claim their new and existing voting rights in UK general elections in 2024 and linking them to Lib Dem candidates in the area where they can exercise that choice.
VICE CHAIR - SIMON MARLOW
Simon joined the Lib Dems in France in March 2021 when he retired to France after a global career as a CEO/COO for marketing and professional services organisations. He has been a member of the Executive since early 2022 and of the Lib Dems Abroad Steering Committee, for whom he chairs their Future’s Working Group.
SECRETARY - MARK BRAINE
Having joined the LibDems three years ago, Mark was first elected as Secretary in 2020 , working with both the Executive and the Campaigns Committee to record and distribute its minutes. He is looking forward to contributing further to building the strength, membership and influence of LibDems in France.
TREASURER - JULIA MARSHALL
Newly elected as Treasurer, Julia has lived in France since 2009 and is a fluent French speaker, using those skills both as a translator and estate agent, selling French property to the Brits. Although she had been a lifelong supporter of the Liberal Party, she only joined the LibDems officially after the Brexit vote. As a resident of the Limousin region, she took on the role of Area Coordinator for Nouvelle Aquitaine in 2019 until Covid struck. She has now rejoined the committee in 2023 in the role of Treasurer.
DATA OFFICER - NIGEL WILKIE
Nigel joined the LibDems in 2017 but has been in France since 1994 , making his home in Vernon, Normandy. He previously worked for the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) based in Paris, as a Digital Solutions Analyst. He is serving his third year in this role and hopes to continue to contribute to both the politics and the data management for LibDems in France.
MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT OFFICER - GLYN DAVIES
Glyn is serving his second year on the Executive Committee . He lives near Redon 35600, having moved to France permanently 7 years ago after taking retirement as Business Development Manager with French flooring manufacturer. His professional background is sales and marketing and his hobbies are rugby, and walking the dog and exploring France in the motorhome.
EXECUTIVE MEMBER - FERGUSON EVANS
Ferguson is the instigator of LDF's policy forum the Virtual Think Tank, devoted to discussions relevant to LibDems in Europe and abroad generally. He is a Doctor in economics, translator of Japanese, writer specializing in Japan and China.
executive member - Kay braine
Kay Braine has served on the Executive Committee of LibDems in France since its inception, including as Chair, Vice Chair and more recently Executive Member with a special interest in member engagement and supporting UK LibDem campaign teams via PhoneForce that makes calls on behalf of candidates in by-elections and key local campaigns.
A committed Europhile and dual French-British citizen, she is active in her local community in the Pays de La Loire region where she retired with her husband after a career in teaching in the north of England.
EXECUTIVE MEMBER - JOHN KETCHELL
John is in his first year as a member of the Executive. He has lived in France and in Belgium since 1990, returning to the Alpes-Maritimes in 2014. He has been a LibDem supporter all his adult life, and rejoined the party following the Brexit vote.
Having been professionally involved for many years with matters related to the European Union, John fervently hopes that the LibDems can influence the next UK Government to revise the current withdrawal agreement to secure a real re-engagement with our closest neighbours.
EXECUTIVE MEMBER - CHRIS PLATTS
Chris has been living in France since 2019 and this is his third year serving as a member of the Executive. He has also been involved in the LibDems Abroad Future’s Working Group.
Chris has been involved in politics most of his life, mainly on the left and centre left. He was active in the anti-Nazis league groups in the 70s and attended many demonstrations during this period.
During his working life Chris took a step back from politics, but as a Probation officer he worked to improve people's lives. Now retired, he joined the Lib Dems in 2019 and is keen to be active in politics and to achieve the same objective.
EXECUTIVE MEMBER - MARTIN RIMMER
Martin was a founder member of the SDP before becoming a Liberal Democrat. He subsequently became a Councillor for Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and stood for Parliament twice.
He is currently involved with the LD Fairness panel and a member of LDEG and the European Movement. Martin lives in Bandol, Var and is serving his third year as a member of the LibDems in France Executive.
EXECUTIVE MEMBER - SONIA YAZIDIi
Sonia has lived in Paris for over five years where she undertook all her higher education and now works as a political consultant. Since volunteering at the LibDem HQ in London during the 2019 general election, she has been active in the LibDems for several years. Notably, she was Vice Chair for two years at the LibDems in France (2020-2022).
